Prop Firm Without MT5: Trading Funded Accounts in Your Browser

Drift Fund · September 21, 2026

Ask a new trader what stops them from taking a funded challenge, and a surprising number give the same answer: they do not want to install MetaTrader. They are on a work laptop, a Chromebook, or a phone, and the idea of downloading a desktop platform, creating a server login, and configuring it is enough friction to make them close the tab.

"Prop firm without MT5" is a real search, and it is worth answering honestly — because the phrase means two different things depending on who is typing it.

What "without MT5" actually means

For some traders it means no downloads — they want to open a browser, log in, and trade. For others it means not forex — they associate MetaTrader with currency pairs and they came for crypto. Drift Fund answers both, but in different ways, and it is better to be clear than to oversell.

Crypto trades in the browser. Our web terminal runs in any modern browser and in our mobile app. There is nothing to download and no server login to configure. You open the terminal, you see live charts, and you place trades with a stop loss and take profit exactly as you would on a desktop platform. This is where every crypto market on the platform trades.

Forex, metals and indices use MetaTrader 5. If you want to trade currency pairs, gold and silver, or index products, those run on MT5, and you choose that platform at checkout. We create the account for you with a real broker; you log in with the credentials we send.

So the honest version is: if crypto is what you trade, you never touch MT5. If you want forex or metals, MT5 is part of the package. You decide which at the moment you buy — not after.

Why a browser terminal is more than a convenience

A download-free platform is easy to frame as a beginner feature, but it changes a few things that matter to serious traders too.

It works on any device. A browser terminal does not care whether you are on Windows, macOS, Linux, a Chromebook, or a phone. You are never locked out because you switched machines or because your platform will not install on a locked-down work computer.

It keeps everything in one place. Your account stats, your rules, your open positions, your stop levels, and your payout history live on the same login. You are not reconciling a broker terminal against a separate dashboard.

It removes a class of excuses. Part of what makes evaluation trading hard is discipline, and friction is the enemy of discipline. When taking a trade — or setting a stop — is two clicks in a tab you already have open, you are more likely to actually do it.

None of that makes trading easy. It just removes the reasons that have nothing to do with trading.

The rules are the same either way

This is the part that traders checking out "no MT5" firms should read carefully. On some platforms the browser product is a stripped-down demo and the "real" rules only apply on the desktop version. That is not the case here. Whether you trade crypto in the browser or forex on MT5:

  • The profit target, the daily drawdown limit, and the maximum drawdown are identical.
  • The stop-loss requirement and the news-window rule apply the same way.
  • The profit split and the payout process are the same.

You can read the full rule set, with the reason behind each rule, on the rules page. We would rather you understand them before you pay than discover them after.

How to judge any "browser-based" prop firm

If you are comparing firms that let you trade without MetaTrader, the platform is the easy part to check. The hard part is whether the firm pays. A few questions cut through most marketing:

  1. Are the rules published before you pay? If you cannot read the exact drawdown and consistency rules without buying, that is a warning sign.
  2. Can you verify a payout? Marketing totals like "$5M paid" mean nothing without evidence. We publish trader payouts with on-chain transaction hashes you can open and check yourself — see how payouts work.
  3. Is the simulated environment stated plainly? Evaluation accounts are simulated. A firm that is upfront about that is being straight with you; one that implies you are trading a live institutional account is not.
  4. Does the browser product carry the same rules as the desktop one? Ask directly. If the answer is vague, assume it does not.

The honest disclaimer

Most people who buy an evaluation do not reach a payout — not because the platform is hard to use, but because trading a set of rules profitably is genuinely difficult. Removing MetaTrader from the equation removes friction; it does not remove the challenge. If a firm suggests otherwise, that is the marketing talking.

If a browser-based crypto challenge is what you are looking for, that is exactly what Drift Fund's web terminal is built for — and if you later want forex or metals, MT5 is there when you need it. Either way, the rules are public, the payouts are verifiable, and you choose your platform up front.
